What Does a Paediatric OT Actually Do
What is Paediatric Occupational Therapy?
Paediatric occupational therapy is all about helping children do the things that matter most in their everyday lives. That might be getting dressed, joining in at kinder, playing with other kids, managing big feelings or becoming more confident in their own body.
At Seeds OT, we take a relationship-first approach. That means we focus on connection and trust before anything else. We see each child as a whole person with their own story, sensory world and strengths. We work alongside families to support development in ways that feel respectful, achievable and meaningful.
How We Can Help
Here are just a few of the areas we support children in:
Regulation and emotional wellbeing
We help children feel safe and more settled in their bodies and environments, using sensory supports and co-regulation strategies. It’s not about changing behaviour but understanding the need behind it.
Motor skills and coordination
From handwriting and scissors to riding a bike or tying shoelaces, we build motor skills through play-based, engaging activities that support confidence and independence.
Daily routines
We help make everyday tasks like mealtimes, toileting or bedtime routines feel more manageable for everyone involved.
Play and social connection
We support children to build joyful play skills and connect with others in ways that are authentic and comfortable for them.
Transitions and school participation
We work closely with educators and support teams to help children feel more included and supported in their learning environments.
Our Approach
We are a small, therapist-led team committed to working with warmth and integrity. Our approach is:
Relational
We build genuine relationships with each child and family, because trust is where real growth starts.
Neurodiversity-affirming
We celebrate difference and support children to thrive as they are, not by changing who they are.
Family-focused
Parents and carers are the experts in their child’s life. We walk alongside you, offering guidance, insight and encouragement.
Evidence-informed
We draw on current best practice and tailor our support to the individual needs and strengths of each child.
Flexible and accessible
We offer telehealth and home-based options to make support more comfortable and convenient for families.
When to Reach Out
You don’t need a diagnosis or referral to connect with us. Sometimes families reach out when things feel hard at home or school, or when they just want to better understand and support their child. If you’re wondering whether OT might help, we’re always happy to have a chat.
