What is a sensory diet?
supporting your child's nervous system through the day

Despite the name, a sensory diet has nothing to do with food. It's a personalised plan of activities designed to help a child's nervous system feel more calm, focused, and regulated — and it can help any child who struggles with big feelings, difficulty focusing, or trouble with transitions.

A "menu" of activities that give the nervous system what it needs

Think of it like regular meals for the body — but instead of food, it's sensory input. Children with sensory challenges often need regular, intentional input throughout the day to stay calm and organised.

The key is that it's completely individualised. What works for one child may not work for another — and a good sensory diet is built around your child's specific nervous system, not a generic list.

Proactive, not just reactive — building regulation into the day

A sensory diet works best when it's woven into the rhythm of daily life, not just pulled out when things are already falling apart. The goal isn't to remove all challenges — it's to give your child's body and brain the input it needs to handle those challenges more effectively.

Proactively

Before dysregulation builds — regular input to keep the nervous system balanced through the day

Transitions

Getting ready for school, settling after lunch, winding down before bed

In the moment

When a child is starting to show signs of overwhelm — before it escalates

We don't just hand you a list — we build something that actually fits your life

At Seeds OT we work closely with you and your child to understand their unique nervous system and what's realistic for your family. We check in regularly to adjust things as your child grows or their needs change.
